A campaign to link voter identity cards with Aadhaar cards has been started by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

According to the ECI, the purpose of the exercise is to validate entries in the electoral roll, establish the identification of voters, and determine whether the same individual has been registered in the same constituency more than once or in multiple constituencies.

However, it is not required to link the voter ID, also known as the Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC), with the Aadhaar card. The election authority has made it clear that no name of an existing voter would be removed from the electoral list because the Aadhaar number has not been provided.

The ECI has provided the methods below for tying the Aadhaar card to the EPIC online via mobile.

The EPIC cardholder must first download and install the Voter Helpline app from the App Store (for iOS users) or Google Play Store (for Android users) (iPhone users).

Open the Voter Helpline App after the installation is finished, then select “I agree” and “Next.” Select “Electoral Authentication Form (Form6B)” and “Lets Start” after clicking the first option, “Voter Registration,” from the list of alternatives that appears.

Click “send OTP” after entering your mobile number. Click “Verify” after entering the OTP shared with the mobile number.

Click “Next” after choosing the first option, “Yes, I have a voter ID.” Once you’ve entered your “Voter ID (EPIC) number” and chosen your “State,” click “Fetch details” and “Proceed.”

After entering the information requested on the screen, click “Next.” The “Aadhaar Number,” “Mobile number,” and “Place of Application” fields should now be filled in. After clicking “done,” the Form 6B Preview page will appear.

Verify the information, then press “Confirm” to submit Form-6B in its entirety. The reference number for Form 6B will be sent once everything has been confirmed.

Voters can give the ECI their Aadhaar number by submitting Form 6B. Additionally, it can be found online at nvsp.in.

In light of The Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, which was approved by Parliament in December of last year, the ECI has decided to integrate voter ID with Aadhaar.

The Representation of the People Act is amended by the Act to permit the voluntary connection of voter identification cards with Aadhaar “for the purposes of authentication of entries in the electoral roll.”
